“. . .  part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.”  —  Elizabeth Warren

January 31, 2015

We “forgive them for they know not what they do,” knew not what they did. Yet, we don't forget: the hard road we've come, the many trails of tears, the fire hoses, the dogs, and the lynchings; the stolen lands, genocide, and deracination from our original homes; the bullets and canon fire that yoked us to reservations and plantations, which we withstood again to remove that same yoke; the booby traps, land mines, the loss of limbs, and death by mortal combat, in preserving our stake in the American Dream of equality.

We do not forget our earned and legitimate claim to the USA, as our country and future. And we shall not be overcome. Nor shall we reduce ourselves to the same evil and hatred perpetrated against us. For we are people of the Earth, of generosity of spirit, of heart and soul. We are lovers of life and mystical origin, standing firm and strong. We are the ones we've been waiting for – celebrating our uniqueness and commonality with all life. We stand grateful and humble before life and its Great Mystery.

“I think that the American people should see that the corporations have abandoned them long ago, that people will have to build their own economies, that people will have to rebuild democracy as a living democracy in this country, and the corporations belong to no land, no country, no people and they have no loyalty to anything except their baseline, their profits. And the profits today are scales of profits that you can’t imagine. It’s become illegitimate, criminal profits, because these profits are being extracted at the cost of life …” — Vandana Shiva
