Sky…Diamonds
This past Sunday (Nov. 2nd), following the nudging of a literary-minded, creative arts Facebook friend of mine, I went to Sedona with my wife to catch “Sky… Diamonds.” Instead, we were “caught”… up in a marvelous play. One that unfolded with pain, joy, laughter, irony rolled up with discovery, and triumph grabbed out of uncertainty. The surprise of Alzheimer’s becomes the surprise of a family divided by realities and forced by the mind drifting of their matriarch into aching acceptance of change and old wounds. Wounds that reveal in their blistering that sweet spot of familial love that is greater than bitterness.
Kate Hawke’s masterful leading-character portrayal was stellar, setting the bar high for her supporting cast. They not only lived up to the challenge, but knocked the ball out of the park. Under the direction of Nichole Garrison: Abby Harvey, Terra Shelman, John Tannous, and Amy Turner joined Hawkes in creating a superb piece of story telling, both memorable and real. If you have the chance… No, take the chance to see this production when and where it next plays. You will not be disappointed.
