Jordan Cove Fracked Gas Project

Monday, July 1, 2019 7:41 AM

Where to begin… Let’s see: The Trump administration is continuing its war on the environment via the auspices of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The many drawbacks of this Pacific Connector Pipeline project export terminal (CP17-494-000 and CP17-495-000) relate to the adverse effects it would cause on the environment and public safety:

The export terminal and increased fracking would:

  • make climate change worse
  • become the largest polluter in Oregon by 2020
  • pose a threat of contaminating the drinking water supplies for more than 150,000 Oregonians by chemicals used in constructing the pipeline
  • introduce explosive potentialities within a tsunami zone
  • be located in wild-fire prone areas, imposing a “Hazardous Burn Zone upon 16,000 people
  • trample farmer and landowner rights
  • put private landowners subject to permanent expropriation of their land by eminent domain

The Jordan Cove fracked gas project is an egregious violation of public trust, endangering lives and the environment to serve corporate greed and political gain. A dangerous, mindless exercise exacerbating climate change warming. Apparently, the only thing the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is interested in, is regulating the degree of reckless Trumpism over the needs and safety of the American people.

So push back while there’s still time (deadline July 5th) and tell the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission that you strongly oppose the Jordan Cove fracked gas project. Go to the Sierra Club.
