When the 1st Marine Division was surrounded and out numbered eight-to-one (the equivalent of 8 divisions) by Chinese and North Korean forces, during the Korean War, Lieutenant General Lewis B. 'Chesty” Puller' — Commander of the division's 1st Marine Regiment — declared the following: “All right, they’re on our left, they’re on our right, they’re in front of us, they’re behind us… They can’t get away this time. “We’re surrounded. That simplifies the problem!"
